Australia’s Last World War I Veteran Jack Ross Dies

Australia’s World War I generation has officially been brought to a close with the death of John Campbell Ross, 110, on Wednesday. Mr. Ross enlisted in February 1918 with the First Australian Imperial Force, where he served as a wireless operator.

Mr. Ross never actually left Australia or saw active service. The last Australian to see active service during World War I was seaman William Evan Allen, and he died in October of 2006.
