Four of Nine Surviving Doolittle Raiders Gather for Reunion

Four of the nine surviving Doolittle Raiders gathered for a reunion in Columbia, SC last week to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the Raid. The Doolittle Raiders at the reunion were Lt. Col. Richard Cole, Major Thomas Griffin, Lt. Col. Robert Hite and Staff Sgt David Thatcher.

The reunion was organized by the Celebrate Freedom Foundation, which also sponsors the Celebrate Freedom Festival at Fort Jackson. At the reunion the Doolittle Raiders were each recognized by the Army’s Freedom Team Salute.

At the reunion, the Doolittle Raiders passed the official Doolittle Raider crest to the aircrew of 34th Bomb Squadron’s flagship B-1.

Four of the Doolittle Raiders shared their stories at the 2008 American Veterans Center’s conference.
