Abandoned World War II Vets Remains Are Put to Rest

Two more veterans will be laid to rest in Massachusetts in the near future. The Missing in America Project has identified the remains that had been left on a shelf in a Worchester funeral home. Private 1st Class Edward Buckley and Seaman 1st Class Thomas Pellerin will be buried with military honors with no family present.

The Missing in America Project is a non-profit organization that works on finding veterans’ abandoned remains, identifying them and giving them a proper burial. MIAP was launched nationwide in January 2007. According to their website, the group has visited 648 funeral homes, found 6642 cremains, identified 571 cremains and given a proper burial to 387.

MIAP’s goal is to ensure that every veteran receives a proper burial. They believe that over 15,000 veterans’ remains have never been identified and buried. Visit MIAP’s website or read the news article.
