First Lady Michelle Obama Visits Arlington National Cemetery

First Lady Michelle Obama toured the Women in Military Service Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery yesterday as part of her commemoration of Women’s History Month and a way to reach out to those in the military.

The First Lady spoke at the Memorial, highlighting women’s role in the military since the Revolutionary War when Deborah Samson disguised herself as a man and joined the 4th Massachusetts Regiment. Mrs. Obama said, “”Military families have done their duty and we, as a grateful nation, must do ours. We must do everything in our power to honor them by supporting them, not just by words but by deeds. And it is my great hope that today that future generations will honor women and men in uniform by first of all never taking the blessings of freedom for granted and by doing their part to create a more perfect union.”
