Quote of the Day

“I’m very positive, but I’m only positive from the perspective that we’ve been there for six years, Karzai is still in power and things are improving. If, suddenly, people are clamoring to see major results in the next five years, or they want us to scale down—something along those lines—then I’d be very negative about it. I still see this as being a good ten to fifteen years before we feel like we’ve really made significant inroads to where we can start bringing the troops home. And I think our commitment is going to have to remain about where it is. It might even be better if we had a few more troops over there. I can’t quantify those numbers, but if you look at what we have right now, I think that while we have the minimum needed, we could have some more over there that would make us more effective. But regardless of that, whatever number we have is going to have to stay for a long time before we really feel comfortable bringing people out, or else we would leave the Afghan government to collapse into chaos.”

-Operation Enduring Freedom veteran Major Jason Amerine in reference to the Afghan government in a episode of Veterans Chronicles.
