Golf Therapy Improves Lives of Vets in Chicago

A non-profit organization in Chicago, Illinois is providing physical therapy for veterans by helping them golf. Revelation Golf not only helps disabled veterans swing the club but also reaches out to breast-cancer survivors, disabled children and adults and at-risk youth.

Many of the veterans arrive at the course in wheelchairs. Each is paired with a therapist and a golf specialist. Some golfers have just had hip replacements; others have just returned from war with brain damage. The golf specialist works with the golfer to make the necessary accommodations so they can golf. Many learn to adjust so they can golf from a wheelchair.

Donna Strum, one of Revelation’s recreational therapists, says that this is one of the most rewarding things she has ever done. Her dad fought in the Korean War. Read the article in the Daily Herald or visit Revelation’s website.
