Reservists Live Longer than Active Duty Retirees

The Department of Defense has conducted a study comparing the life expectancy of active duty retirees and reserve enlisted retirees. They found that reserve enlisted retirees live significantly longer than the average American while active duty retirees seem to have about the same life expectancy as everyone else.

No in depth studies have been done as to why the difference exists. Theories include the added stress of active duty, the frequent moves, wars and stress-induced habits like smoking and drinking.
